Innovation and Integrity
Spartan has manufactured and marketed specialty maintenance products for over 50 years. A company built on integrity; Spartan has always taken the high road. Spartan has stayed abreast of guidelines and trends within the industry...proactively looking for new and unique ways to improve the sometimes-challenging tasks of cleaning. From the most simplistic to the more challenging complicated cleaning tasks, Spartan is always looking for innovative ideas to advance the janitorial sanitary supply industry.

Supporting the Greening Effort
Green cleaning and cleaning for health are the contemporary mantras. Spartan takes pride in working within that spirit and the framework set forth by many federal agencies including the Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Agriculture, and OSHA to name just a few. Spartan has also worked within the formulating guidelines of Green Seal™, the non-profit third party certification organization and the US Green Building Council who is dedicated to greening the built environment. Spartan recognizes and has voluntarily worked to formulate, manufacture and market products within the scope of current volatile organic compound regulations and the Clean Water Act. Spartan took the initiative in developing one of the industry’s first affordable and effective assortments of branded environmentally preferable and reduce-risk products brands with the introduction of Green Solutions.

Educating Generations
Beginning in the nineteen-sixties, terms such as phosphate free, biodegradable and ozone friendly became mainstream science terminology. End users were made aware of those terms and taught their understanding. Kids learned this information in elementary schools and by the seventies; we had a generation that understood we had a natural environment to care for. We also realized human beings are part of the natural environment. The two entities are one, and not separate of one-another.

Inquisitive Society
Channels of communication have escalated and knowledge has increased to end users making them more aware and more educated than ever before. The population now knows what VOC’s are, or has a general idea, of what they are. End users most likely have heard of CFC’s, the propellant banned in the seventies due to adverse effects on the earth’s ozone layer.

We live in a much more educated society than ever before, and if end users are not familiar with terminology they hear or read, they simply can search the Internet to arrive at some degree of explanation…so with respect to that, we look forward to the future for innovation.

The Green Umbrella
As science pushes forward, Spartan’s research and development department reaches for innovation with each new product and product category Spartan formulates and takes to market. Looking ahead to more green news in the future, there are new products that promote sustainability and natural processes. Some may and some may not be green per-say, however this approach to science allows the realm of advancing in the direction of sustainability and greening. Products that support the use of renewable natural resources such as Spartan’s BioRenewables® have agricultural raw materials as the basis for their formulation and are next generation products. The raw materials these products are built on are agricultural crops. This reduces America’s dependency on fossil fuels and foreign oil. On the horizon, we look forward to having more products that are compatible with Green Seal certification standards including some of the BioRenewables’ products.

Non-pathogenic bacteria products are another alternative. Known as bio-augmentation these Spartan products actually digest organic matter as the primary catalyst for the cleaning process. These products are branded under the Consume® name. Consume’s digesting capabilities of organic matter actually assists in the replacement of the use of various chemical processes and physical treatment of waste.

The Future is Bright
As you can see there are still many seeds to sow in the greening of the janitorial and sanitary supply industry, so the future is bright. We are moving in the right direction and at Spartan we are looking forward to the next fifty-years.
